When we talk about branding is very common to only think about logo design, colors, or print material, often forgetting about imagery. But knowing how to choose the right images for your business can make a huge impact on the way you connect with your audience.

The saying ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ is completely right, especially when it comes to marketing. It’s the way you can capture the attention of your customers, stand out from your competitors, and create a cohesive brand presence.

So how can you make sure you are choosing the right images that communicate your message? Well, here are 5 tips to get you started.

1. Have your brand attributes in mind

Brand attributes are words used to describe your brand that shape the visual identity for your brand, in particular when it comes to content creation.

Use these to define the style of the images you want for your brand. For example, if you are the owner of a beauty salon and one of your brand attributes is ‘natural’, you might want to search for images of women surrounded by nature, greenery, and neutral colors.

2. Consider a specific color scheme

Your color palette doesn’t have to be used only on your logo or graphics, it can also be a guide to choose the right images for your business.

When searching for images, have in mind your brand colors as this will not only help you keep a cohesive style, but also evoke different emotions and communicate specific ideas.

3. Use filters if you need to

Searching for images that only use certain colors can be a challenge. Don’t worry, that’s where filters can be very helpful.

If you like an image that has a very different color scheme, you can always play around with the contrast, brilliance, saturation, and color balance. This is particularly helpful for Instagram as every photo will match the style of your brand.

You can use Photoshop to do this or use an app like Afterlight or A Color Story. Don’t forget to use the same filter on every image to be consistent.
